Project Case: Use and Operation of Rotary Flash Dryers
1. Pre-Startup Preparations: Conduct a step-by-step inspection of all power machinery components, transmission systems, lubrication systems, sealed connections, and tightened fasteners.
2. Power-On and Operation:
(1) Startup sequence: induced draft fan → spindle cooling motor → dust removal system → air compressor → spindle agitator motor → feeder.
(2) Ignite the hot-air furnace; once the fire is strong, start the induced-draft fan, draft fan, blower, spindle cooling motor, and dust-collection system to generate hot air throughout the system.
(3) The hot-air heating process also serves as a preheating and warming-up procedure for the equipment. Once the air temperature reaches the rated value, sequentially start the air compressor, the spindle agitator motor, and the feeding device, after which material feeding can be initiated.
(4) During the heating and preheating process, since bag filters are used for tail-gas separation, it is important to avoid overheating, which can damage the filter bags. In such cases, the feed rate can be adjusted by continuously adding small amounts of material to prevent high-temperature damage to the bag filters (≤150°C). o C). (i.e., when the supply air temperature fails to meet the rated requirement, but the exhaust air temperature is ≥150 o At C time, perform informal pre-feeding in advance; the startup sequence is the same as above.
(5) The amount of material added should be adjusted according to the temperature, ensuring continuous and uniform feeding; abrupt variations in the feed rate must be avoided.
(6) During operation, continuously monitor the cooling system to prevent issues that could damage the bearings; never operate the cooling system without sufficient water.
(7) Feeding may only be commenced after the spindle agitator has started up normally.
(8) During feeding, take care to prevent hard materials such as metal sheets and stones from entering.
3. Separation System:
When the separation system is operating normally, the operation of each mechanical component should be monitored at all times.
(1) The material from the cyclone separator shall be discharged through an airlock discharge device. Regular monitoring of the hopper to ensure no material buildup is required, and any accumulated material must be promptly removed.
(2) The baghouse dust collector shall be emptied on a scheduled basis, with the emptying interval determined according to specific operating conditions. It is recommended that the entire system be shut down at the end of each shift to remove accumulated dust from the baghouse. The filter bags should be replaced based on the stickiness of the material; they should be changed after a certain period of continuous operation (typically every 300–1,000 hours). After removal, the filter bags shall be washed with clean water, air-dried in the shade, gently beaten to loosen any compacted dust, inspected for damage, and then stored for future use. During replacement, care must be taken not to puncture the bags, and all connections must be sealed to prevent leakage.
(3) Baghouse Dust Collection: The filter bags are equipped with a pulse-jet cleaning system; however, depending on the nature of the material being processed, regular inspection and replacement are still required.
(4) The flash dryer is a large-scale, continuous-process complete set of equipment; the proper functioning of each component directly affects the operation of the entire system. Therefore, operators must possess a certain level of skill and a strong sense of responsibility. In addition, since this equipment is suitable for drying a wide range of materials across various industries, and different materials exhibit distinct drying characteristics, users are required to gain practical experience in order to understand the specific drying behavior of each material and thereby ensure that the entire system operates at its optimal performance.
4. Shutdown:
(1) After notifying the boiler operator to shut down the furnace, sequentially stop the feeder motor, the main shaft agitator motor, the forced-draft fan, the induced-draft fan, the dust-collection system, the main shaft cooling motor, and the air compressor.
(2) After the boiler operator shuts down the furnace, the hot-air stove continues to supply heated air due to residual heat. In systems equipped with baghouse filters, care must be taken to prevent damage to the filter bags caused by excessively high air temperatures, and appropriate measures should be implemented when necessary.
(3) After the feeding machine stops, the main shaft agitator motor must continue to run for a specified period of time; only when there is no residual material remaining in the tower may the equipment be shut down.
